I developed my writing through a successful academic background in physics/cosmology/mathematics - gaining a 1st Class MPhys degree from the University of York and a PhD in cosmology at the University of Sheffield. During my degree, I never received anything less than a first-class grade for any written work before going on to learn how to write more technical work using the applicable writing styles and guides for various academic journals during my PhD. Although not listed as the first author on some of those papers, due to university seniority guidelines, I was always responsible for writing the manuscripts listed here in their entirety.
As a native British English speaker who has written regularly in US English for publication, I understand the nuances and differences of the English language that are sometimes required for submission to institutions/publications on either side of the Atlantic.
Besides the academic work, over the last decade I have also had numerous publications in photography and outdoor magazines, websites, blogs and books. These can vary in style and often need to fit very precise briefs in tone, formatting and length - the precision and attention to detail learned academically also stand me in good stead to write more informally when required. The fact that editors continue to come back to me demonstrates that the work I submit is consistently of high quality - saving themselves time in the publishing process.
